Reservation Recommendations

Introduction

Reservation recommendations is a type of document offered by Azure Documenter that provides recommendations for optimizing cost by reserving the compute resources for 1 or 3 year(s) commitment.

Reservation Recommendations are currently available for the following resource types:

• App service plan

• Virtual Machine

Document structure

The document contains the recommendations of four different types,

1. Purchase Reservation

Resources eligible for reservation will fall under this type of recommendation. Users can straight away purchase the reservations to start saving costs.
2. Change SKU and Purchase Reservation

Recommendations of this type indicate that the resource's SKU is not eligible for reservation, resources can be moved to a different SKU with a similar configuration to make it eligible for the reservation.

3. Change SKU and Use Existing Reservation

Recommendations of this type indicate that there is an unused reservation available and the SKU of the resource needs to be changed to leverage the reservation.

4. Already with Reservation

Recommendations of this type indicate that the resources are already using the purchased reservations.

Generate a Document

1. Click New configuration on the Azure Documenter homepage

2. Enter a name to the document configuration and click Next

3. Choose the required subscriptions and click Next

4. Select Reservation recommendations as the document type and click Next

5. Filters can be defined to narrow down the document content

6. Click Next

7. Choose the publish settings and click Next

8. Configure notification channels

9. Click Generate

Once the generation is completed, the URL will be generated. The user will also be able to download the generated document via the Download hyperlink.

Changing the evaluation duration

Users can define the evaluation duration for their Reservation document, which can be achieved while editing a configuration.

1. Click the Edit option in the context menu of an existing configuration.

2. In the Advanced settings section under Reservation recommendations, provide the preferred evaluation duration.

3. Click Update to save the changes made.
